Is your matcha "Ceremonial Grade"?

To be completely honest, "Ceremonial Grade" is merely a marketing buzzword created in Western markets to distinguish it from "Cooking (Culinary) Grade." It is a concept that simply does not exist in Japan.

Originally in Japan, matcha has only been divided into two fundamental categories: "For Confectionery/Baking"and"For Drinking."

Furthermore, the "For Drinking" category is strictly divided into two ranks based on quality: Koicha (Thick Tea) and Usucha (Thin Tea). Why? Because historically in Japan, matcha was not consumed for daily health benefits or to look good on social media (Instagrammable drinks). The primary target was always the traditional tea ceremony (Sado) practitioners, who demand absolute perfection in taste, aroma, and color.

Today, the overseas market has become a lawless zone without any official standards. Please be careful. There are countless vendors slapping the "Ceremonial Grade" label on inferior matcha with poor, yellowish color and a bitter, terrible taste, just to sell it at a premium price.

At Marutake Ebisu, we don't play those cheap marketing games.

We exclusively carry authentic matcha blended (Gogumi) by historic Uji tea houses specifically crafted for actual tea ceremonies. If we must use Western terminology, every matcha we offer is "Premium Ceremonial Grade"(suitable for genuine Koicha and Usucha).

Please enjoy the true, authentic taste of Japan with absolute confidence.
