【店主の雑感】 私も一碗からピースフルネスを 届かない抹茶と、平和への祈り

こんにちは、丸竹夷の成沢です。

今日はお茶の専門的な話ではなく、一人の日本人として、そして世界に抹茶を届ける一人の人間として、今感じていることを正直に綴りたいと思います。

フィクションのような「戦争」と、目の前の「現実」
正直に告白すれば、私にとって「戦争」とは、どこか遠い別の星の出来事、あるいは映画の中のフィクションのように感じられるものでした。
日本にはかつて大きな戦争がありましたが、私は戦後生まれです。ニュースで流れる戦火の映像を見ても、それが自分の日常と地続きであるという実感が、どこか希薄だったのかも「しれません」。

「しれません」と言うのは数日前よりは少し分かったつもりになっているというだけで、決して戦争の悲惨さや現状を体感したわけではありません。体験した人、その地域にいる人にとって私の考えることは何も分かってないと言われるかもしれません。ただ、少しだけ”リアル”になった、その変化の尺度としての「しれません」です。

そのリアルが先日あって、私のその「距離」を一気に引き戻される出来事がありました。

イスラエルのお客様から、抹茶のご注文をいただいたのです。
そのお客様は、自国の情勢により配送が困難である可能性を十分に理解した上で、「それでも丸竹夷の抹茶が飲みたい」と注文を寄せてくれました。

しかし、結果としてその抹茶は、日本から飛び立つことができず、当店へと返送されてきました。

現在、日本からの国際貨物は中東情勢の影響により、日本郵便をはじめとして大幅な制限がかかっています。以下は3月に連絡のあった日本郵便から海外配送についての案内です。
 
今回は飛行機がとぶことができず返送という結果になりました。
「抹茶が好きだ」と言って注文してくれたお客様に、私がセレクトした抹茶を届けることができない。
このもどかしさは、会社の売上としての単なる「ビジネスの停滞」ではなく、もっと根源的な悲しみとして私の心に刺さりました。


「お先にどうぞ」の精神が世界を救う
お茶の世界には、私が到底及ばない高い志を持って平和を説き続けた先人がいます。
昨年亡くなられた裏千家十五代家元、鵬雲斎千玄室大宗匠（1923-2025）です。

大宗匠は若き日、学徒出陣により特攻隊の任に就きました。過酷な戦争体験を経て、戦後は「一盌（いちわん）からピースフルネスを」というスローガンを掲げ、世界7カ国を歴訪されました。

彼が説き続けたのは、茶道の「和敬清寂」の理念です。
一碗のお茶を「緑の地球」に見立て、「『After you（お先にどうぞ）』の気持ちがあれば、争うことはない」という言葉を遺されました。

たとえ拳を握りしめていても、茶碗を手に取れば、その拳は開かれます。
お茶を点て、相手に差し出す。その瞬間に生まれる静かな調和こそが、平和への第一歩であるという信念。
戦後80年、100歳を超えてもなお、大宗匠は力強くその「茶の心」を伝え続けました。




私にできること、丸竹夷にできること
私には、大宗匠のような大きな活動はできません。きっと。たぶん。
しかし、お茶を通じて世界平和を願う気持ちは同じです。

世界中のどこの国でも、誰の目を気にすることもなく、ただ一杯の抹茶を愉しめる。
そんな当たり前の日常が、すべての場所で戻ってくることを切に願っています。

今はまだ、空の便が混雑し、荷物が戻ってきてしまうもどかしい日々が続きます。
それでも私は、いつか必ずその一杯が届く日を信じて、今日もここ名古屋から、誠心誠意お茶を送り出します。

日本では桜が咲き春を迎えました。うちの店の前の桜も満開です。
そして、あと一ヶ月もすれば宇治では茶摘みの季節です。
世界が平和になり、すべての人と「一碗の茶」を分かち合える日が来ることを祈って。

[Personal Reflections] Peacefulness through a Bowl of Tea / My Prayer for Peace and the Matcha I Could Not Deliver

Hello, I am Takashi Narusawa from Maru Take Ebisu.

Today, I would like to move away from technical talks about tea and instead share my honest feelings?not just as a professional delivering matcha to the world, but as a fellow human being.

War as "Fiction" vs. My "Reality" 
To be completely honest, for a long time, "war" felt to me like something happening on another planet, or perhaps a scene from a work of fiction. While Japan has a history of a great war (WWII), I am a member of the post-war generation. Even when I saw footage of war-torn areas on the news, the sense of it being connected to my own daily life "might" have been thin.

I say "might" because, while I feel I understand slightly more now than I did a few days ago, I have never personally experienced the true misery or the raw reality of war. Those who have lived through it or are currently in such regions may say that I understand nothing. For me, the word "might" is a measure of how that distance has slightly?but significantly?shortened into something "real."

That reality hit home recently, pulling that distance back all at once.

I received an order for matcha from a customer in Israel. That customer understood the difficulty of shipping due to the current situation in their country, yet they placed the order, saying, "I still want to drink Maru Take Ebisu's matcha."

However, in the end, that matcha could not depart from Japan and was returned to our shop.

Currently, international cargo from Japan is under significant restrictions due to the situation in the Middle East. Below is the advisory regarding international shipping issued by Japan Post in March:

[Important Notice: Delay in International Mail Delivery] Due to the worsening situation in the Middle East, restrictions have been placed on mail and cargo bound for the region. This has caused extreme congestion in air and sea mail to and from surrounding areas, including Europe and Africa, resulting in significant delivery delays. Depending on the situation, we may be forced to return accepted mail to the sender. Affected Regions: Entire European region, entire African region. [Source: Japan Post, March 2026]

This time, the flight simply could not take off, and the package was returned. To be unable to deliver the matcha I carefully selected to a customer who said "I love matcha"?this "heart-wrenching" feeling is not just about "business stagnation" or sales. It is a fundamental sadness that strikes at my very soul.

The Spirit of "After You" Will Save the World 
In the world of tea, there is a great predecessor who preached peace with a level of aspiration far beyond my own. The 15th Grand Master of Urasenke, Dr. Genshitsu Sen (Hounsai, 1923?2025), who passed away last year.

In his youth, Dr. Sen was a member of the Tokko (Kamikaze) unit during the war. After surviving that harrowing experience, he dedicated his life to the slogan "Peacefulness through a Bowl of Tea," visiting over 70 countries around the world.

What he continued to teach was the philosophy of "Wa-Kei-Sei-Jaku" (Harmony, Respect, Purity, and Tranquility). Likening a bowl of tea to our "Green Earth," he left us with these simple but profound words: "If we have the spirit of 'After you,' there will be no conflict."

Even if one is clenching a fist in anger, to hold a tea bowl, that fist must open. The act of whisking tea and offering it to another creates a quiet harmony?the first step toward peace. Even at 102 years old, Dr. Sen continued to share this "Heart of Tea" with unwavering strength.

What I Can Do, What Maru Take Ebisu Can Do 
I cannot engage in such grand activities as Dr. Sen did. Probably. Maybe. However, my prayer for world peace through tea is the same.

In every country around the world, I hope for a day when anyone can enjoy a bowl of matcha without fear or hesitation. I sincerely pray for that "ordinary" daily life to return to every corner of the globe.

For now, air routes remain congested, and the frustration of returned packages continues. Nevertheless, I believe that one day, that bowl of tea will reach its destination. Today, from here in Nagoya, I continue to ship our tea with all my heart.

In Japan, spring has arrived with the blooming of cherry blossoms. The tree in front of our shop is now in full bloom. In just one month, the tea-picking season will begin in Uji. I pray for a peaceful world where we can all share "a bowl of tea" together.
